What a Week at Valley View!
The first week of school is officially behind us, and what a great start it has been. There is always something special about those first few days of September. Hallways that have been quiet all summer suddenly fill with laughter, conversations, backpacks, and a whole lot of excitement. Students spent the week reconnecting with friends, meeting new teachers, learning new routines, and settling into their classrooms. As I walked through the school this week, I saw students jumping into learning, helping one another, and embracing new experiences with enthusiasm. The energy throughout the building was contagious.
On Friday, we came together for our first whole-school assembly of the year. We talked about assembly etiquette, explored our Valley View Vision Statement, and reflected on the commitments we make to ourselves and to one another as members of this community. These conversations matter because they help set the tone for the year ahead and remind us that a great school is built on respect, kindness, responsibility, and belonging.
We finished the assembly by introducing our 2026-2027 staff team. Students had a lot of fun meeting the adults who support learning throughout the school, and the cheers and excitement in the gym made it clear that we're ready for a fantastic year together.
Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making Week One such a positive experience. It already feels like a wonderful year is underway.
A Quick Note
If you're expecting a classroom update from your child's teacher, those emails will be arriving on Monday. An unexpected system outage on Friday afternoon prevented staff from sending their regular weekly communications. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the issue. We look forward to reconnecting with families early next week.

Attendance Matters
A quick reminder that parents and guardians are asked to report absences before the start of the school day.
When reporting an absence, please include:
- Your name and relationship to the student
- Student's full name (please spell the last name)
- Grade
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for the absence
- Information about late arrivals or early departures
A quick phone call helps us ensure all students are safe and accounted for.
Volunteers Welcome
Valley View benefits from an incredible community of parent and guardian volunteers. Whether you're helping on a field trip, supporting a classroom activity, or contributing at a special event, we appreciate your time and involvement.
A reminder that all volunteers must register each school year, even if you have volunteered previously. Registration can be completed through the SchoolEngage section of your MyCBE account. This year, community members who do not currently have a child attending a CBE school must complete their volunteer registration in person at the school. This allows us to review privacy expectations and complete required documentation.

Terry Fox Run 2026
On September 18, our school community will once again come together to honour Terry Fox and support cancer research. Terry's story continues to inspire generations of Canadians. His determination, courage, and belief that one person can make a difference are lessons that still resonate today. Last year, Valley View raised an impressive $1,350. The question is: What can we accomplish together this year?

Meet the Teacher and Fall BBQ
We are very excited for the opportunity to welcome families into the school. Please join us on September 24 for our Meet the Teacher and Fall BBQ. Families can choose one of two session times:
Session 1: 5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Session 2: 6:00 p.m. - 6:45 p.m.
You'll have an opportunity to:
- Meet your child's teacher
- Learn about classroom routines and expectations
- Hear about learning goals for the year
- Connect with other Valley View families

Transportation Update
We know some families are still waiting for transportation arrangements to be finalized.
Transportation services cannot begin until registrations have been processed and students have been assigned to routes with available capacity. Once that process is complete, information is shared with families, service providers, and drivers.
Until transportation service has been established, parents and guardians remain responsible for ensuring their children travel safely to and from school.
We appreciate your patience as Transportation Services works through a high volume of registrations at the beginning of the school year. Student safety remains the priority throughout the process.
Technology Expectations and "Away for the Day"
As students settle into the school year, it's a good time to review our expectations around personal technology. Valley View follows the CBE's guidelines regarding personal electronic devices and responsible technology use. Under the Away for the Day expectations, personal devices such as cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, and other internet-enabled devices are to be powered off and put away during the school day. These expectations help create learning environments where students can focus, participate fully, and engage with the people around them. Rolling Into Week Two
Week One had all the ingredients of a great start excitement, a few tired faces by Friday afternoon, lots of learning, and plenty of smiles. As we head into Week Two, routines will become more familiar, confidence will continue to grow, and classrooms will settle into the rhythm of learning together. We can't wait to see what our students accomplish next. Have a wonderful long weekend, and we'll see everyone back at Valley View ready for another great week.
