Week at a Glance | September 28 – October 2
A Great Week at Valley View!
It has been another great week at Valley View, and there is lots to celebrate.
A definite highlight was our Meet the Teacher evening and Fall BBQ. We welcomed a record number of families into the school, and it was so nice to see the building full. Families were visiting classrooms, exploring the spaces where students spend their days, chatting with staff, and simply spending time together as a school community.
And then there was the food!
Our friends from the Rotary Club served more than 1,000 hamburgers and hot dogs over the course of the evening. That is a lot of burgers and hot dogs! We are incredibly grateful to the Rotary Club for taking this on and for the continued generosity they show Valley View. Thank you as well to our School Council, staff, volunteers, and everyone else who pitched in behind the scenes. An evening like this takes many hands.
On a personal note, thank you to the families who stopped me in the hallway, outside, or between classroom visits just to introduce themselves. Being new to Valley View means I am still learning lots of names and faces, and I really appreciated those moments. If we haven't met yet, please come and say hello the next time you see me. I would love to meet you.
School Council Casino Fundraiser
Our School Council Casino Fundraiser is November 19 and 20, and this is a big one for Valley View.
The casino brings more than $80,000 back to our school. Those funds directly benefit our students and help School Council support learning materials, technology, enrichment opportunities, school enhancements, and experiences that add to what we are able to offer students throughout the year.
Simply put, $80,000 makes a significant difference for Valley View students.
But we can't do it without volunteers. The casino requires a number of shifts to be filled over the two days, and every person who signs up helps make this fundraiser possible.
If you can spare a few hours, please consider joining us.

Child & Youth Well-Being Family & Caregiver Series
Well-being is a precondition for student achievement and is essential to learning and success. Students bring strengths, experiences, and capacities that can be nurtured through supportive relationships and inclusive learning environments.
The CBE invites all parents and guardians to participate in a free live online series focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with experts from the Calgary community, this year's sessions will explore a range of timely topics related to raising children and teens today.
Families will gain practical knowledge, tools, strategies, resources, helplines, and information about available services to support healthy child and youth development.
These sessions are free and open to parents and guardians.

Into October We Go!
September certainly went quickly.
In just a few weeks, we have watched new friendships form, routines become familiar, classrooms take shape as learning communities, and students become increasingly comfortable finding their place at Valley View. We have also had families fill our hallways, volunteers step forward, community partners lend a hand, and plenty of reasons to laugh and celebrate along the way.
Have a wonderful weekend!
