It was another full and exciting week at Valley View, with plenty of opportunities for our students to learn, connect, and contribute to our community.
Today, our whole school came together for the annual Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research. There is something especially meaningful about seeing our students take part in an event that has inspired Canadians for generations. Terry Fox's courage, determination, and commitment to helping others continue to remind us that even one person can make a difference.
We were also lucky to have Leadership students from Forest Lawn High School join us for the day. They walked over to Valley View with posters in hand, helped us map out the running route, and spent the run cheering on and encouraging our students. Their energy made the morning even more memorable, and we hope this is just the beginning of a strong connection between our two schools.
And we're not finished yet! We are still collecting "Toonies for Terry" as we try to top Valley View's previous fundraising total of $1,350. Every contribution, no matter the amount, brings us a little closer to our goal and supports an incredibly important cause.
There is also some friendly competition to settle. The class that completed the most laps during today's run will get to choose the colour Mr. Krokosh dyes his hair! It is a very close race, and our students put in an impressive number of laps. Stay tuned for the winning class and, of course, the all-important hair colour!
Staffing Update
We are pleased to welcome Ms. Gurpreet Kaur to Valley View. Ms. Kaur will be transitioning into Ms. Kang's Grade 3/4 class, allowing Ms. Kang to move into her role for this school year as Valley View School's Complexity Team Teacher. We are excited to have Ms. Kaur join our school community and look forward to supporting students through this transition.
We are also pleased to share that Mr. William Lew has accepted the position of Grade 5/6 teacher at Valley View. Mr. Lew will be transitioning into the classroom currently supported by Ms. Rashmi Baldwin. Ms. Baldwin will continue supporting the class next week to help ensure a smooth transition before returning to her role as a CBE EAL Strategist.
We are grateful to Ms. Baldwin for the experience, care, and consistency she has provided during this transition, and we are excited to welcome both Ms. Kaur and Mr. Lew to their new roles at Valley View.
School Council
Our next School Council Meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 22 at 6:00 p.m. due to unforeseen circumstances. The meeting will take place online.
School Council is an important way for parents and guardians to stay informed, share perspectives, and contribute to conversations that support student learning and strengthen our school community. Whether you have attended before or are joining us for the first time, all Valley View parents and guardians are encouraged to participate.
We would also like to highlight our upcoming Casino Fundraiser on November 19 and 20. This is one of the most significant fundraising opportunities available to our school, and filling all of our volunteer positions is essential to its success. Funds raised through the casino come directly back to Valley View and support experiences, resources, and supplies that enrich and extend student learning.
If you are able to volunteer, we would greatly appreciate your support. Every filled shift makes a difference for our students.
