Week at a Glance | October 2-6

Dear Families,

It’s already October and we are now on our way in terms of being comfortable with learning and working in our classrooms. Teachers have been learning more about your child(ren) and are planning learning tasks focused on meeting students where they’re at and helping them to move forward.

Supporting Each Student at Valley View School Through a Collaborative Response Framework

As we observe the academic and social/emotional needs of our students, we are using a Collaborative Response Framework to support learning. This framework includes collaborative team meetings where whole grade teams, specialist teachers, administration, strategists, and support staff work together to identify student needs and plan for targeted or specialized strategies and support. The identification process is determined by assessments, both formative and summative, by the classroom teacher. This follows with a pyramid of interventions or continuum of support. Your child’s classroom teacher will communicate with you if your child requires targeted or specialized support. If needed, a school learning team (SLT) meeting will be set up with you so we can work collaboratively in addressing your child’s needs.

Individual Program Plan (IPP) Review

If your child is on an IPP, your child’s teacher will communicate with you regarding the first review. At this time of year, teachers review all assessments and establish new targets and strategies. In some cases, previous targets and strategies will continue. The IPP will be shared with families by October 13. Please take the time to look over the IPP and sign the signature page, which needs to be returned to the classroom teacher.

Photo Day – Monday October 2

Photo Day is on Monday October 2. Your child will have the opportunity to have an individual and class picture taken by Lifetouch. The pictures will be sent home with your child in the following weeks, and you can choose to order pictures! Ordering pictures is optional; however, we do ask students to have their picture taken for school records. There will be a photo retake day offered on November 7.

World Teachers’ Day October 5

We express our heartfelt appreciation for the incredible educators at Valley View School who are an integral part of our school community.

Our teachers are the heart and soul of our school. They are the ones who inspire, guide, and nurture our students every day. Their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to providing the best possible education are truly commendable. Even in challenging times, they have demonstrated resilience and adaptability beyond measure.

On World Teachers' Day, let us come together as a school community to celebrate and honor our teachers for the remarkable work they do.

Through activities ranging from students writing letters to their favourite teachers to national holidays in some countries, the world community has been showing its appreciation for the vital contributions that teachers make to society. We thank all our teachers for their ongoing dedication and commitment to supporting students each and every day.

International Walk to School Week | Oct. 2-6

International Walk to School Month gives children, families and caregivers, school communities and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking.

Walkers from around the world walk to school together for various reasons — all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

We look forward to seeing many families walking to school next week!
