Dear Families,

Thanks to everyone who came to the Celebration of Learning yesterday evening! We had a great time showing off all the amazing work and student talent. We hope you enjoyed the evening. To see pictures from the event, please visit us on Instagram @valleyviewcbe.

Significant Days in June

June is National Indigenous History Month, an opportunity to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis who have lived on this land since time immemorial and whose presence continues to shape Canada today. It is also a moment for reflection and to recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization and to reflect on how we can all contribute to reconciliation. At Valley View School, we will be taking time to learn more about Indigenous Peoples Month and renew our commitment to the TRC.

There are many other dates of significance in June. To learn more about this, please visit the CBE's website. We take the time each morning to share learning about the dates of significance through the student announcements.

Outdoor Classroom is Ready!

We’re happy to share that construction of the outdoor classroom is complete and will become available for use soon. The space looks beautiful and we’re so grateful to be able to offer an outdoor classroom of this kind. Thanks to both school councils and active parents for supporting this project, Mr. Todos for overseeing the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) Grant and operational management of the space, all the staff and students at both schools who were part of the design from the beginning, the Late Elder John Snow, Elder Turning Robe, and Elder Saa’kokoto for their guidance and wisdom at every stage, and both school admin teams. The hope is that this space becomes a place to:

Observe local plants, animals, and natural features.

Share teachings from Elders and Knowledge Keepers.

Honor the cultural significance and history of this specific land.

Connect with one another in a welcoming, outdoor setting.

To view the entire process, please visit our school showcase on the website.

Student Voice

We will be having our last Student Voice meeting next Thursday. Representatives from each class have the opportunity to share their ideas about school-related initiatives. We will focus our conversation on our actions towards Truth and Reconciliation. As we look to sharing our commitment later in June, we value input from our school community. The actions discussed at this meeting will be shared with families at the last school council meeting on June 16th.  Student Voice will also have input into celebrating Culture Day at VVS.

June 5th – Grade 6 Moving Camp to Baz Tours

On June 5th, grade 6 students from Valley View School will have an opportunity to visit Ian Bazalgette to learn more about the school, courses, and offerings. This experience is personalized for students so they can see the school, meet staff, and ask their questions. We’re looking forward to supporting their transition to junior high school!

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)

Grade 6 students will be participating in the upcoming Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). These assessments support curriculum reflection and help monitor student learning across the province. The schedule is as follows:

Grade 6 English Language Arts and Literature Part B:  Thursday June 4

Grade 6 Science: Friday, June 12

Grade 6 Mathematics Part(ie) A: Monday, June 15
