Week at a Glance | January 15 - 19

Dear Families,

Welcome back to school and Happy New Year to all families! We hope you had a wonderful break and that your first week back at school went smoothly. We are certainly excited to be back and working with your children and they seem happy to be back.

Valley View Science Program Open House for Prospective 2024-2025 Families

It’s that time of year when we start to promote the Science Program to potential students for the 2024-2025 school year. If you have a child who is eligible to start next school year, please join us at the Open House on January 18, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 pm

Report Cards and IPPs Available January 30

Teachers are now finalizing assessment and report cards for the first term. Report cards will be available during the week of January 30 through the MyCBE portal. You will need to log in to view your child’s report card. A student’s report card corresponds to ongoing assessment done by their teachers. Assessing a student’s progress is one of the most important ways teachers support the continued learning of their students. You may have questions about your child’s report card, how your child is being assessed in school, and how to read and interpret the report card. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

Students who have Individual Program Plan’s will also receive an update at this time. If your child has an IPP, you will need to review the IPP, sign the signature page, and return the signature page to your child’s teacher.

Kindergarten Communication of Learning

Kindergarten teachers will report progress to parents/legal guardians via January and June report cards. In January, progress in ELAL and Math will be communicated to parents/legal guardians via the report card.

In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated to parents/legal guardians via the report card.

Grade 1 Assessments

The Provincial government requires that all students in Grade 1 complete a literacy and numeracy assessment prior to January 31. These assessments are used to see where students are, as a result of the learning loss due to Covid-19. The results will help identify how to plan for appropriate support moving forward. If your child is in Grade 1, they will have started these assessments.

Adolescent Brain Development | Family & Caregiver Well-Being Session

As part of a continued effort to support the well-being of students, CBE is committed to sharing valuable information about child and youth well-being with families and caregivers.

This is the second (of five) sessions available for families and caregivers, this time focusing on 'brain development in adolescence'.

Date: Thursday, Jan. 18

Time: 6:30 - 8 p.m.
