Dear Families,
Thank you to everyone who attended the Meet the Teacher and Fall BBQ yesterday! We had a fantastic turnout and hope you have a better understanding about your child's classroom routines, expectations and curriculum goals. Orange Shirt Day Learning
Yesterday marked Orange Shirt Day, during which our staff and students engaged in learning opportunities related to Truth and Reconciliation. We were honored to welcome Elder John Snow from Stoney Nakoda, who spoke with our grade 5 and 6 students about the significance of place names. A grade 9 class from Ian Bazalgette joined us for this enriching experience. Students explored culturally significant Stoney Nakoda sites and will continue their learning in the classroom.
Students also engaged in learning more through story, a school-wide chalk where messages related to Every Child Matters were written on the surrounding sidewalks, and classroom community circles. These learning opportunities help us to deepen our understanding about Truth and Reconciliation and Indigenous cultures, peoples, and histories.
Individual Program Plans (IPPs)
Today, our staff reviewed student learner profiles and began planning learning targets and strategies with Area 3 specialists and strategists. Students on Individual Program Plans (IPPs) will focus on specific goals during short learning cycles. These goals will be assessed, and we will communicate progress to parents at three reporting intervals:
-mid-October
-first report card at the end of January, and
-end of June with the final report card
In the coming weeks, classroom teachers will share the IPPs with respective families for review and signature.
