Dear Families,
We had a wonderful start up this year and were happy to welcome all our students to Valley View School. Students have been getting familiar with their new teachers and classmates and learning about the expectations for positive behaviour at school. They are also spending time building their new community. We thank you for your support at home as we all support students with starting school again. Your child’s teacher will be the main contact for any questions or concerns that you may have about your child’s learning. Please contact them about school-related matters.
Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
This year our school will focus on the following commitments towards Truth and Reconciliation:
Heart - To Belong: Build and apply an understanding of Indigenous community values such as reciprocity and respect, and how these are lived in relationships with Indigenous students, families, Elders, community members, and the land.
Body - To Do: Engage the school community to learn about the land where your school is located. Have students, staff, and families share their learning and make commitments to Truth & ReconciliACTION through the CBE Land Acknowledgement.
We will continue to work with Elders and knowledge keepers to support our work and learning. We are also committed to engaging students in land-based learning and understanding more about the land where our school is located.
Important Letters and Forms
Your child will bring home some important forms and letters today. Please take time to read through them and return what is required on Tuesday. The K-6 Mode of Transportation form is very important for us as we ensure your child is getting to and from home safely.
Transportation
If your child takes the bus to and from school, it is very important they take their designated bus and not any other bus. Students are not permitted to take a different bus for reasons like going to a friend's house. Any changes in bus designations need principal approval.

Various Street Improvements
As part of the Various Street Improvements program, The City identified crossing and intersection improvements along 26 Ave S.E. at 39 St S.E. as a priority this year. The City works closely with their contractor, ALSA Road Construction, to ensure timely completion of projects.
The project is scheduled to begin work September 4, and the City anticipates completing it with minimal impacts to the surrounding properties by working during non-peak hours, which typically range from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as the City works to improve Calgary’s infrastructure and make our city a better place to live, learn and work.

Kiss and Go and Parking in Surrounding Streets
Thanks to all families who are working with us to ensure a smooth morning routine for everyone. We appreciate and recognize your efforts! Here are some reminders about what we expect for morning drop-off:
-Soft-Entry is from 7:50 am – 8:00 am and is the best time for your child to enter the school and get settled for the day. School starts promptly at 8:00 am.
-Use the “Kiss and Go” to drive up, park, kiss your child, and drive away. This lane is not for parking so you can wait in the school grounds for your child to enter. There is street parking available in the surrounding streets. We appreciate your cooperation!
-Do not use the staff parking lots for drop-off. Please use the designated kiss and go or surrounding street parking.
-Walk with your child on the sidewalks and not through the parking lots.
-Do not block driveways! Please ensure you are not parking in front of a resident’s driveway.
Walking Club
Mrs. Ramos and Ms. Kalirai are looking for some adventurous students to join us on their fall community walks during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students are expected to wear their outdoor shoes and bring their lunches. They will meet in room 6.
This will begin September 10th, 2024, and end November 7th, 2024. There is limited space and therefore it will be on a first come first serve basis.
Meet the Teacher and Fall BBQ
We will be inviting you to meet your child’s teacher in person on September 26 to learn more about the academic, social, and well-being goals for this year. You will also have a chance to learn about your child’s classroom routines and expectations. During this time, the Valley View School Council and Rotary Club will be hosting a Fall BBQ! This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the other members of the school community. Conference bookings will be available starting Thursday September 19th at 9 am. Please sign up for a conference using the Conference Booking system in your MyCBE account.
Upcoming Dates:
Monday September 2 – Labour Day (School Closed)
