Dear Families,
We had a wonderful start to the school year and were delighted to welcome all our students to Valley View School. Over the past week, students have been getting to know their new teachers and classmates, while also learning about our expectations for positive behaviour at school. We kicked off the year with a fun welcome-back assembly, where students came together for a fun sing-along. It was a great way to build community and start the year on a positive note. We’re looking forward to the days ahead, as students engage in meaningful learning experiences both indoors and outdoors, begin their field studies, and take part in exciting whole-school activities.
Thank you for your continued support at home as we work together to help students transition smoothly back into the school routine. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s learning, please reach out directly to their classroom teacher, who will be your primary point of contact for school-related matters.
Truth and Reconciliation Commitment
This year our school will focus on the following commitments towards Truth and Reconciliation:
Heart - To Belong: Build and apply an understanding of Indigenous community values such as reciprocity and respect, and how these are lived in relationships with Indigenous students, families, Elders, community members, and the land.
Body - To Do: Engage the school community to learn about the land where your school is located. Have students, staff, and families share their learning and make commitments to Truth & ReconciliACTION through the CBE Land Acknowledgement.
We will continue to work with Elders and knowledge keepers to support our work and learning. We are also committed to engaging students in land-based learning and understanding more about the land where our school is located.
Important Letters and Forms
Your child has brought home some important forms and letters. Please take time to read through them and return what is required on Monday. The K-6 Mode of Transportation form is very important for us as we ensure your child is getting to and from home safely. All other demographic forms can be reviewed in your MyCBE account.
Transportation
If your child takes the bus to and from school, it is very important they take their designated bus and not any other bus. Students are not permitted to take a different bus for reasons like going to a friend's house. Any changes in bus designations need principal approval. If you are going to pick up your child from school instead of taking the bus, you must notify the office before 1 p.m. on that day.

Please make sure your child is entering/exiting through their designated doors each day. Here is a list of door assignments:

"Kiss and Go" and Parking in Surrounding Streets
Thanks to all families who are working with us to ensure a smooth morning routine for everyone. We appreciate and recognize your efforts! Here are some reminders about what we expect for morning drop-off:
-Soft-Entry is from 7:50 am – 8:00 am and is the best time for your child to enter the school and get settled for the day. School starts promptly at 8:00 am.
-Use the “Kiss and Go” parking lane along 41st Street to drive up, park, kiss your child, and drive away. This lane is intended for you to safely drop off and leave. If you plan to wait with your child on the school grounds we request that you use the available parking in the surrounding streets. We appreciate your cooperation!
-Do not use the staff parking lots for drop-off. Please use the designated “Kiss and Go” or surrounding street parking.
-Walk with your child on the sidewalks and not through the parking lots.
-Do not block driveways! Please ensure you are not parking in front of a resident’s driveway.
