Dear Families,

We’re settling into our new routines, and students are actively engaged in their learning. We thank families for supporting their children at home by encouraging healthy habits and routines, such as early bedtimes and turning off screens at least an hour before sleep. These practices help students get restful sleep and come prepared for learning each day.

Terry Fox Run on September 18th

What a special year this is! We are excited to share that Valley View School is taking part in the 45th annual Marathon of Hope. Forty-five years ago, Terry Fox showed us the power of effort, courage, determination, and hope. He began with a dream and one step, and today his journey continues through millions of Canadians, stride by stride, coast to coast to coast.

If you would like to support this cause, you can donate directly through our school’s fundraising link: https://schools.terryfox.ca/ValleyViewSchoolCalgary , or send in “Toonies for Terry” with your child to the school. This year, our goal is to raise $1000 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Every step and every dollar honor his legacy and supports the fight against cancer.

Our school will be hosting the Terry Fox Run on Thursday, September 18th. We look forward to running alongside our students for this wonderful cause.

Thank you for helping us honour Terry’s legacy and keep his dream alive.

New Early Dismissal Time on Fridays

There will be a minor adjustment to Friday early dismissal times at Ian Bazalgette School and Valley View School, effective Friday, September 19.

To better coordinate transportation for students who share bus routes between the two schools, the Friday dismissal times will shift by five minutes:

·       Ian Bazalgette School: 12:05 p.m.

·       Valley View School: 12:10 p.m.

Students will continue to receive the required instructional minutes and student learning remains a priority.

School Council Meeting on September 16th

The first VVS School Council meeting will be held on Tuesday September 16th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually, through Microsoft Teams, and is a wonderful way for parents to get involved with their child’s learning at school. The School Council plays a significant role in providing support for students, like literacy tools and books, math manipulatives, experiential learning opportunities, and more! Please attend the meeting on Tuesday to learn more about the School Council. A meeting link will be emailed the morning of the meeting to all families.

Head lice is common in children and can be treated at home. We recommend that parents/guardians do a weekly scan of your child’s head to check for head lice. For more information, please visit the AHS website
