Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe May is here and we only have 2 months left of school! The year is flying by and it’s so amazing to see how our students are growing and learning each day. Hopefully the warmer weather will arrive and stay for a while so we can enjoy the full benefits of Springtime. We enjoyed our week with a wonderful mid-week performance by the Forest Lawn High School band class. They did an excellent job showcasing their talents and entertaining our staff and students. Thanks to their director, Taylor Berry and Mrs. Skibbe for bringing this experience to VVS.
Mental Health Awareness Week – May 6 - 10
Next week is Mental Health Week, a time to think about our feelings and minds. We will work with our students to remind them how to take care of our thoughts and feelings, just like we do for our bodies. We will also talk about ways we can feel better, like talking to someone we trust or doing things that make us happy.
On Wednesday, May 8, it's Hats On! for Mental Health. People in Alberta wear hats to remind everyone how important it is to take care of our feelings and minds, showing support for good mental health. We encourage everyone to wear a hat on Wednesday May 8th.
Bike & Roll to School Day – May 8th
Get ready to walk, bike or roll to school next week because Bike & Roll to School Day is here! Join us on May 8th where we celebrate being active while going to school, all while making our community stronger and our school spirit even brighter. Whether we're making our routes to school safer or just having fun being active, this event is all about making a difference that lasts. May 8th is the official day for Bike & Roll to School Day this year! Let's lace up our sneakers, strap on our helmets, and roll into school together!
Kiwanis Diversity Cup
Taking part in the Kiwanis Diversity Cup tournament each year is a tradition at Valley View School. The Kiwanis Diversity Cup is a non-competitive soccer tournament that creates opportunities for youth to engage in team sports and for their families to connect with services, having a positive impact on their lives and the future of their families. We're happy to be able to start Diversity Cup practices with Division 2 students very soon. Stay tuned for more information and forms coming home next week.
May is Asian Heritage Month
May marks the beginning of Asian History Month, a special time to recognize the significant contributions of Asian Canadians to our nation's history and culture. Throughout the month, our school will offer activities, discussions, and educational opportunities designed to highlight the rich diversity and achievements of Asian communities across Canada.
From learning about the resilience of early Chinese immigrants to celebrating the creativity of South Asian entrepreneurs, our students will embark on a journey of discovery and appreciation. We aim to foster a culture of respect, understanding, and inclusivity within our school community.
Celebration of Learning May 16th
Join us on May 16th for a Celebration of Learning at the school from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This special event will showcase student achievements in literacy, numeracy, science, and well-being for learning. We can't wait to share the exciting progress our students have made with you and celebrate their accomplishments together. Stay tuned for more details about this event next week!
