Dear Families,
Today, we welcomed a new set of parents to Valley View School for the 2024-2025 school year at our Welcome to Kindergarten Spring Orientation. It’s hard to believe we’re almost done with this year and already planning for the next. Looking ahead, we will have nearly 600 students attending VVS next year. We’re excited to see our current grade 5 students become the grade 6 leaders and look forward to them sharing their voice and leadership as this is crucial to building our school community. We are currently hiring new staff and will share updates, as well as those leaving VVS, soon.
The East Playground is Now Open!
The east playground is now open for play! Please be mindful of the orange fences that are surrounding the playground as we need to protect the new sod and grow new grass in some areas.
Student Learning Progress and What Parents Can Do
VVS students have been working hard all year to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. They've also been learning how to work well with others and solve conflicts. Our teachers have been assessing students in all subjects and have seen many students make great progress. To keep this positive momentum going, and to finish the year strong, it’s important for students to continue building these foundational skills.
Spend time with your child reviewing the basic concepts they have learned this year. For example, in mathematics, your child should be able to identify some strategies they use when they are solving number facts mentally. Use these resources to help guide your conversation:

Oral language is a crucial part of learning to read and write. It's different from written language, but it plays an essential role in how children learn. When children develop their oral language skills, they connect sounds, like the sounds of letters and spoken words, to their meanings. This connection is vital for becoming a good reader.

Finally, keep accessing the Friendology program at home with your child. Friendology has a lot of great information and resources to support your child with building healthy friendships. Ask them questions about how they solve conflicts at school.
