Dear Families,
A big thank you to all families who joined us yesterday evening for the Celebration of Learning! It was a wonderful event and students were beaming to share their learning with you. We appreciate all your support and commitment to student excellence. We also thank everyone who supported the Scholastic Book Fair. We were amazed at how many students and families purchased items from the fair to support our school. We are looking forward to having more Scholastic Book Fairs in the next school year.
Parent volunteers who have helped with various school events or field trips this year, received a gift from the staff and students at VVS yesterday evening. If you were not able to join us, we will send the gift home with your child next week.
Earth Rangers Assembly May 21st
On Tuesday May 21st, Earth Rangers will be at Valley View School for a whole-school assembly. This interactive assembly will empower students to become environmental leaders at home, in school and in their communities. The Earth Rangers School Assembly is an exciting and interactive presentation complete with live animals, games and trivia, captivating video content, and two enthusiastic presenters who explain complex environmental issues in a way kids can understand.
East Playground Almost Ready!
The East Playground is almost ready for students to enjoy! The area is still fenced off to allow the sod to settle and extra soil to be absorbed. We hope to have the playground ready for play in the next week and a half and will let you know as soon as it’s ready. It has been interesting to observe the process!
Spring Orientation Friday May 24th
We will have a spring orientation for the 24-25 school year Kindergarten families, and new families to the Grade 1-6 science program next Friday May 24th. The orientation will run from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and all families who need to attend have been notified. Current Kindergarten students do not have school on this day.
Dress Code Finalized
After gathering input from staff, students, and parents at the April School Council meeting, we have finalized the dress code for Valley View School. Please review the dress code thoroughly and ensure your child adheres to the guidelines.
CBE Administrative Regulation 6010 recognizes that society has diverse opinions about what constitutes suitable dress for school activities, and expectations for dress will vary from school to school.
Students at Valley View School dress respectfully for an active school environment, and comfortably for a variety of settings. They wear clothing appropriate in length and coverage that reflects a positive image of the student and school and contributes to a safe learning environment. Based on our belief in a “dress for work” concept, students select attire and dress mindfully by using good judgment and respecting themselves and others.
- Pants, shorts, skirts, and tops do not reveal midsection or undergarments.
- Hats, toques, visors, bandanas, and sunglasses must be removed when entering Valley View School; however, this does not apply to head coverings for religious or medical purposes.
- No clothing with inappropriate language or pictures is to be worn at school. The school administration will determine the appropriateness of language and pictures displayed on clothing.
- Students wear and change their indoor and outdoor shoes accordingly, and appropriately for physical education classes. Indoor shoes must be always worn at Valley View School.
Lunchtime Expectations
Over the week, Ms. Kelsey and Ms. Amel worked with students to reaffirm the lunchtime expectations. New visuals and posters were created, and each class had a conversation about what is expected behaviour at lunch.
We want to remind you that noon supervision is a service that parents pay for so students can stay at school to eat their lunch and have some time outside. Lunch supervisors are on duty to ensure that students can enjoy their lunch in a safe, caring, welcoming environment. During this time, if an incident or conflict comes up, the same regulations apply, as would during the instructional times of the day. Parents have a responsibility when it comes to the Student Code of Conduct, and we’d like you to review these responsibilities:
A parent of a student has the responsibility to:
a) take an active role in the student’s educational success;
b) assist the student in complying with the Student Code of Conduct
c) promote the prevention of bullying
d) assist the school in addressing disciplinary issues involving their child; and
e) ensure the parent’s conduct contributes to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment.
Upcoming Dates:

Friday May 24 - Early Dismissal at 12:15 PM (Grades 1-5 attend; no school for Kindergarten); Spring Orientation from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
