Dear Families,

Next week our grade 6 students will be attending Camp Chief Hector, an overnight, outdoor education camp which provides unique opportunities for enhancing curriculum objectives, building communication and cooperative group skills, and providing a shared experience for students of different backgrounds. We wish our grade 6’s an engaging and positive outdoor learning experience!

Phys-Ed Teacher Update

We’d like to share a staffing update for the remainder of the school year. Mr. Hawken will continue teaching one of our Grade 5/6 classes. He brings great energy and a strong commitment to student learning while providing continuity for his students. We’re also pleased to share that Mrs. Ellahib has been leading the Phys-Ed program. Mrs. Ellahib creates an engaging, active, and supportive environment for all students. Thank you for your ongoing support as we move through the final months of the school year together.

Lunchtime Snacks and Expectations for Behaviour

We’ve noticed that some students are feeling extra hungry during the day. This can be due to growth spurts, increased activity outside, or just needing a bit more fuel to stay focused and energized.  If possible, please consider packing an extra snack or two in your child’s lunch. Nutritious, easy-to-eat items like fruit, crackers, or granola bars can make a big difference. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students thrive throughout the day!

We want to remind you that noon supervision is a service that parents pay for so students can stay at school to eat their lunch and have some time outside. Lunch supervisors are on duty to ensure that students can enjoy their lunch in a safe, caring, welcoming environment. During this time, if an incident or conflict comes up, the same regulations apply, as would during the instructional times of the day. Parents have a responsibility when it comes to the Student Code of Conduct, and we’d like you to review these responsibilities:

A parent of a student has the responsibility to:

a) take an active role in the student’s educational success;

b) assist the student in complying with the Student Code of Conduct

c) promote the prevention of bullying

d) assist the school in addressing disciplinary issues involving their child; and

e) ensure the parent’s conduct contributes to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment.

The Student Code of Conduct is attached for your reference.

My 1st Ride Program

The CBE offers a school bus orientation program called My 1st Ride. This program is designed to familiarize students with the experience of taking the yellow bus to and from school on a regular basis.

The orientation is aimed at first-time riders, students with special transportation needs and older students. Each group is offered an orientation session to meet their diverse needs. The orientation typically takes place annually in May and consists of a 20-minute presentation followed by a short ride on a school bus. Each new rider will also be given a certificate of completion.

Staff from CBE Transportation, Calgary Catholic School District and our service providers are available for information and/or questions.

Participants must register in advance. Spots are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, please visit the CBE's main website.

School Council Meeting

We’d like to invite you to our next School Council meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:00 p.m.. These meetings are a great way to stay connected with what’s happening at the school and to help shape a positive experience for all our students.

School Council plays an important role in building community, supporting learning, and sharing ideas that help guide school planning. We are currently looking to fill two key positions: Vice President and Secretary. If you’re interested in getting more involved, this is a great opportunity to contribute your voice and skills. Please email Amy Bennett for more information.

We hope to see you there!
