Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that March is already here! There are many activities and events happening in our school, including Mission Impossible in the gym! Students will practice their jumps and rolls as they maneuver through boulders and ropes in the gym. This is a highlight for many of them! We also look forward to an art exhibit at our school (see below) and parent-teacher conferences before Spring Break.
Passion Fridays
Follow Your Passion Friday started off strong as students were introduced to their passion groups for the next several weeks. Everyone had a chance to get to know students from different grades, and dabble in art, music, movement, exploration and more! There was so much positive energy and excitement in the school and we're looking forward to the next Friday!
TREX Art Exhibit
The Nature of Ornament Art Exhibit will be showcased at Valley View School from March 7 – April 10. There are 13 pieces of art which will hang on the walls of our MakerSpace. The exhibit The Nature of Ornament highlights parallels between patterns and visual motifs that exist naturally in the wild with humanity’s timeless inclinations towards adornment. Patterns are everywhere, and humans are pattern-seeking creatures. As mathematician and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead (1861 – 1947) wrote, “Art is the imposing of a pattern on experience, and our aesthetic enjoyment is recognition of the pattern.” The patterns, textures, and designs that adorn our garments, home interiors, and architectural structures reveal an innate mimicry of the natural world, and it is within this recognition that we can begin to ask important questions of humanity’s connection to nature.
Students will engage with the art in different ways and the exhibit will be up for families to view during parent-teacher conferences on March 21 and 22.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday March 8 - Early Dismissal at 12:15 PM (Grades 1-5 attend; Tues/Thurs Science Kindergarten attend; no school for Community Kindergarten)
