Dear Families,

Welcome to March! As we enter the final stretch of winter, we look forward to an exciting month at school filled with engaging activities. We're thrilled to kick off Alien Inline Skating, which will help build confidence and physical literacy, so please ensure all required forms are signed and returned. Later in the month, we will recognize the Spring Equinox with cross-curricular activities exploring themes of seasonal change and growth. Parent-Teacher Conferences will also take place, providing an important opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress and discuss goals. More information on scheduling will be shared soon. March promises energy, learning, and community connection, and we appreciate your continued support!

Elder Visit with Grade 4/5

This week, our Grade 4/5 community classes had the opportunity to share their learning about Treaty 7 with Elder John Snow. Students created beautiful pieces of work to present, and Elder John guided them in reflecting on their understanding of Treaty 7. It was a meaningful experience for our Grade 4/5 students, and they look forward to continuing their learning.

Inline Skating Begins

We’re excited that Alien Inline Skating begins next week for all students. Please ensure the Acknowledgement of Risk form is signed and returned so your child can participate. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Thank you for your support.

Pi Day

We are excited to announce that on Friday, March 13th, we will be celebrating International Pi Day, a day dedicated to the mathematical constant π (3.14)! To commemorate this fun event, we are hosting a Pi Memorization Challenge, where students will have the opportunity to compete in recalling the most digits of Pi. We encourage all students to get involved and excited about mathematics! The winners from each grade division (K, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-6) will compete for the chance to be one of three lucky winners to pie a teacher! This year, we are incorporating a fun fundraising element. Students can donate $1.00 to cast a vote for which teacher they want to get pied in the face! All proceeds will go towards supporting the Grade 6 camp this year.

Hibernation and Code Purple Protocols

At Valley View School, we implement two safety protocols for supporting students who become dysregulated. In the classroom, we initiate a Code Purple, allowing the rest of the class to move to the adjacent room while the student receives support. If a situation arises in the hallway, we call for a Hibernation, enabling teachers to close their doors and maintain learning while the student in need receives support. These practices help ensure a safe environment and support ongoing education.

Upcoming Dates:

Friday, March 6 – Early Dismissal at 12:10 PM (Grades K–6 attend; Tuesday/Thursday Science Kindergarten attends)
