School Planning Survey and Evaluation - March 8 – 22
We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we’ll be sharing information about school planning and asking you to share your perspectives.
During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to:
1. Learn About
- School planning, which includes the school development plan, school budget and school fees
- How the school development plan sets the overall focus and direction for a school to improve student learning outcomes
- How the school budget provides funding to implement our school development plan
- School fees and why they are necessary
2. Participate
Participate in our virtual school council meeting on Tuesday March 12 to learn more about school planning. There will be an opportunity to provide feedback at this meeting.
- Share your perspectives through an online survey open from March 8 to March 22.
Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.
School Conferences – March 21 and 22
School Conferences are an opportunity for you to see your child's progress in relation to the Curricular or Program of Study outcomes at this time in the school year. During the meeting, you will see some of your child's learning evidence and be able to ask questions to your child's teacher. Mrs. Skibbe will be available for conferences so you can learn more about how your child is doing in music. Mrs. Dexter will also be available to meet regarding literacy intervention and support, and how you can support your child at home. The Conference Booking will open on Thursday March 14, 2024 at 9 a.m. Please log into your MyCBE account to book a conference time.
Pi Day
March 14 is International Pi Day! Pi Day celebrates the mathematical constant π (pi), which is approximately equal to 3.14. It's a day to recognize math's importance and have some fun with this fascinating number. In celebration of Pi Day, Valley View School will host a special contest for our students. We're challenging them to see who can memorize the most digits of the number Pi. It's a great opportunity for our students to engage with mathematics in a fun and interactive way. The winner from Division 1 and Division 2 will then be able to choose a staff member (from those who have agreed to participate) to gently put a pie in their face at a whole school assembly!
Ramadan
Ramadan is a significant time for many of our students and their families. We understand the importance of supporting our students if they choose to observe fasting during this holy month. Our school is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment where all students feel respected and valued. We encourage open dialogue between parents, students, and staff to ensure that appropriate accommodations are made to support students who choose to fast.
Lunch and Other Reminders
If you are sending food that requires a spoon or fork, please send those with your child as we have limited resources at the school.
We often supply pants to children who have accidents, like falling in puddles. If you can help us out, we need size 5 – 10 pants, elastic waist preferred. Please donate to the office. Thank you!
