Dear Families,
Our students have been spending more time learning outdoors and taking walking field trips. The students who are at the Ridge come back full of excitement as they observe the changing landscape with wildflowers and lush green landscape. Please make sure your child has what they need to learn both indoors and outdoors. This includes a hat and proper footwear.
Pride Month
The Calgary Board of Education strives to ensure that all schools are safe and caring places for students and staff. As a public school system, we welcome students from diverse backgrounds, perspectives and beliefs. At Valley View School, we have honoured and recognized our school community throughout the school year with events such as Orange Shirt Day, Metis Week, Asian History Month, Black History month, etc. June is Pride Month Internationally, or Aug. 26-31 is Calgary Pride Week, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. The CBE is committed to safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff. At Valley View School, we will recognize this by: highlighting our collection of diverse stories and read alouds, and creating awareness through morning announcements. We acknowledge that each family and community have unique experiences with different recognitions and celebrations, and any commemorative activities in our schools may be perceived differently. Classroom-based activities and lessons that promote diversity and inclusion are not subject to exemptions as they are in alignment with the Education Act
VVS TRC Reflection and Renewal
Thanks to those who have completed the short reflection and renewal survey for our TRC commitment. If you haven't had a chance to share your thoughts and experiences with the TRC commitment at Valley View School this year, please do. Your input will help guide us as we move forward.
Kiwanis Diversity Cup
We’re getting excited for the Kiwanis Diversity Cup! This year, we have 3 co-ed teams comprised of grade five and six students! Every year, more than 600 youth and their families participate in the Diversity Cup, which is hosted by the Kiwanis Clubs of Calgary in partnership with Kidsport and the Calgary Police Service Diversity Resource Unit. The Diversity Cup has been running for 19 years and aims to engage youth who typically do not have the opportunity to play organized sports. This year's tournament will take place at Forest Lawn Athletic Park, located at 4808 14th Street Southeast, on June 14th and 15th, 2025, from 9:00 AM to approximately 5:00 PM each day.
Provincial Achievement Tests – Important Dates
Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are administered annually to all Alberta students in grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests reflect the essentials that all Alberta students are expected to achieve, regardless of school choice or location.
PATs help:
- determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
- report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
- assist schools, authorities and the province in monitoring and improving student learning
The tests occur in January, May and June for English and Français/French language arts, math, and social studies.
