Dear Families,

We have officially reached the halfway mark of the school year! It is incredible to reflect on the immense learning that has already taken place, and we are even more excited for the opportunities on the horizon. Looking ahead, we are thrilled to unveil the final design of our outdoor learning space and begin construction, alongside engaging activities like Alien Inline Skating and continued cultural enrichment through Elder visits. Our Grade 6 students are also entering a significant milestone season as they prepare for Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) and the highly anticipated trip to Camp Chief Hector. Furthermore, we look forward to partnering with our School Council to host community-building events, including movie nights and the Scholastic Book Fair. It promises to be a busy and rewarding second half of the year!

Black History Month

This February, our school community is proud to recognize Black History Month, a time dedicated to honouring the legacy, achievements, and resilience of Black communities. Throughout the month, our classrooms will specifically highlight Black Canadians who have played a pivotal role in shaping our country’s identity and have made enduring contributions to science, politics, the arts, and social justice. By exploring these diverse stories and histories, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of our shared past and celebrate the individuals whose courage and innovation continue to inspire us today.

Student Voice

Students were recently asked what is going well at our school and what we can do better, and their responses were thoughtful and encouraging. They shared that our school feels kind, welcoming, and inclusive, with caring teachers, strong friendships, calmer hallways, and a growing focus on learning. Students also identified clear next steps to help our community continue to grow, including using kind words, keeping hands and feet to ourselves, listening and staying focused during learning time, moving safely through hallways, taking better care of shared spaces, and playing fairly and peacefully at recess. We will use this student voice to guide our ongoing work as we continue building a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment together.

Alien Inline Skating

We are excited to announce that Alien Inline Skating is coming to our school gym next month! This program offers all students a fantastic opportunity to learn essential safety protocols, proper equipment use, and skating techniques in a fun, supportive environment. We are pleased to offer this experience at a reduced fee of only $10 per student, made possible by a generous donor. Keep an eye out for detailed information packages arriving home soon. We look forward to seeing all our students participate in this high-energy activity!
