Dear Families,

Welcome to our new website! The new look definitely has appeal and is user-friendly. We still have some content clean-up to do, so please bear with us as we work on the site content over the next few months.

Pink Shirt Day

PSD Poster 8x10

On Wednesday February 28, we will be acknowledging Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is an opportunity that supports increased awareness and prevention of bullying in schools, workplaces, homes and online, and helps support bolstering children's self-esteem.  The CBE supports bullying prevention and awareness and recognizes the importance of Pink Shirt Day. We encourage everyone to wear a pink shirt on February 28.

At Valley View School, we strive to create a safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and students. We focus on helping students to build positive relationships and we support them through self-regulation and conflict management. We use the Connecting to Spirit model as a regulation model that is culturally responsive. The Connecting to Spirit model considers Indigenous learning perspectives. Learning is interconnected with all aspects of self; mind, heart, body and spirit. We are also working towards using a whole school approach to empower kids with friendship skills.

Sometimes, students are involved in challenging situations with their friends. Many times it has to do with a conflict, or rude behaviour, although in some situations, they may be involved in mean/aggressive behaviour or bullying. See the CBE's Continuum of Behaviours below for further explanation.

With the CBE’s Progressive Student Discipline Administrative Regulation as a guide to support our response in each situation, we recognize that not all situations require the same response as each case is different.

Parents also have a responsibility when it comes to Progressive Student Discipline:

A parent of a student has the responsibility to:

a) take an active role in the student’s educational success;

b) assist the student in complying with the Student Code of AR 6006;

c) promote the prevention of bullying;

d) assist the school in addressing disciplinary issues involving their child; and

e) ensure the parent’s conduct contributes to a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment.

If your child experiences any conflict at school which they are not able to resolve on their own, it’s important for them to seek the support of their teacher, or other adults at school or home.

Passion Fridays

We're excited to be launching Passion Fridays starting March 1. Your child will have the opportunity to participate with a multi-age group exploring a passion they are interested in. All staff will be teaching and supporting a passion which includes origami, chess, book club, art, dance, basketball, baking, mindfulness, and much more! All passions will connect to various curriculum and well-being. Sessions will run for 1 hour each week.

Lockdown Practice

We will have our second lockdown practice next Wednesday. Lockdowns are important to help with emergency preparedness and to build confidence. We work closely with Calgary Police Service to make sure the practice meets all standards and is done with ease.

Upcoming Dates:
