Dear Families,
Thank you to all parents/guardians who attended parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate you attending and getting an update on how your child is doing in school. If you did not get a chance to attend, please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a meeting.
Festive Fridays
We’re getting into winter-holiday mode and celebrating traditions from around the world! To help keep the spirit bright, we’ll be hosting Festive Fridays all month. Here are the details:
Friday, Dec 5 – Fancy Hat Day
Wear your most creative, classy, or quirky hat!
Friday, Dec 12 – Festive Sweater Day
Break out your brightest, coziest, or most festive sweater.
Friday, Dec 19 – Sleepy Santa (PJs) Day
Come comfy and cozy in your favorite pajamas.
We’ll also enjoy some winter caroling with songs from around the world—non-faith-based and fun for everyone. We look forward to lively sing-alongs in the gym!
Holiday Food Drive Dec 1st – 17th
We are excited to host our Holiday Food Drive from December 1st to December 17th. During this time, students and families are invited to donate non-perishable food items to the Calgary Food Bank by bringing them to school and placing them in one of the collection boxes.
A wish list of high-need items, along with a holiday-specific list, is provided below. Families who prefer to make a monetary contribution can also donate directly to the Calgary Food Bank by visiting: https://calgaryfoodbank.donorsupport.co/page/ValleyViewSchool
Winter Festival of Lights - Dec 11th from 5:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
The Festival of Lights Winter Celebration is an event for Valley View students and their families. We invite you to join us for some holiday fun! Activities include chalk art, winter beading, karaoke, holiday card making, and more! Students must be accompanied by their parent(s)/guardian(s). We request that families bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Calgary Food Bank when attending the Festival of Lights.
School Improvement Results Report and School Development Plan Posted
The School Improvement Results Report for 2024-2025, School Development Plan (SDP) for 2025-2026 are now posted on our school website. The Fees Report to Parents for 2024-2025 school year will be posted soon. Please take some time to review these reports. Thank you!
Reminder to Return Library Books
We have been culling and curating our library collection and have identified 700 unreturned books from students. This is a very large number, and we would greatly appreciate having all overdue library books returned to the Learning Commons as soon as possible. We strive to offer students an updated, high-quality collection of books available for sign-out, and returning borrowed items ensures that everyone can enjoy them. Please help your child locate any overdue books and return them to school. Thank you for your support.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found collection is growing. Please check for and pick up your child’s missing items before December 12th. Labeling your child’s belongings, such as jackets, water bottles, and other personal items, is a great way to help ensure they make their way back home. Any unclaimed items after December 12th will be donated to a local charity. Thank you for your support.
School Fees
We would like to remind families to pay their child’s outstanding school fees, including field trip fees. We currently have a lot of unpaid fees from last school year and would appreciate your help in clearing any balances owing. If you need support with central fees, you may be eligible to apply for a central fee waiver. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Upcoming Dates:
Friday December 5 - Early Dismissal at 12:10 PM (Grades K - 6 attend; Mon/Wed Science Kindergarten attend)
