Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe this is our last parent message for 2025! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Festival of Lights Winter Celebration yesterday evening. We were thrilled to see such a wonderful turnout and appreciate your participation and generous support for VVS. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as we did! A special thanks to all staff and students for creating such wonderful activities for families.

We would also like to extend a special thank-you to the Tim Hortons on 26th Avenue SE for their generous donation of hot chocolate. We are truly grateful for their support.

This time of year is filled with festivals and celebrations from around the world, and we strive to recognize and honour the diversity within our school community. Each morning, students highlight a variety of celebrations on the announcements, including Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Christmas, and Bodhi Day. With over 35 languages and cultural groups represented at VVS, we are fortunate to learn from such a vibrant and diverse community.

No matter how you celebrate, we wish you a joyous holiday season. May 2026 bring more joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Let’s continue to support and uplift one another throughout the year ahead. Wishing you all health, happiness, and prosperity in the new year!

Upcoming Commūn-I-Tea and Winter Solstice – December 18th

We are excited to host our first Commūn-I-Tea of the year on December 18! These gatherings provide the time, space, and setting to build meaningful relationships that nurture connection. By bringing together school, home, and the wider community, we create a cohesive collective that enriches Indigenous learners’ school experiences and supports staff growth. At this Commūn-I-Tea, we will also celebrate the Winter Solstice. The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and the return of the light. For many Indigenous cultures, it is a time of reflection, gratitude, storytelling, and coming together as a community to welcome the gradual lengthening of days. This gathering is an opportunity to connect with Indigenous students, families, and communities, and we look forward to sharing this meaningful time with you.

Winter Solstice will also be acknowledged at school through in-class learning activities, stories, sharing from Elders, and a whole school tea light reflection, hosted by our Kindergarten students. We look forward to learning more about this significant event.

Clothing Donation

We are in need of some clothing for students. If you have some gently used pants and hoodies/sweaters sizes 5-10, please consider dropping them to the office. We appreciate your support!

Science Open House – January 15, 2026

Kindergarten registration will begin in the new year, and we will be hosting a Science Alternative Program Open House for prospective students for the 2026–2027 school year. If you have a child who is eligible to start next school year, please join us on January 15, 2025, from 6:00–7:00 p.m. More information will be shared soon.

Appropriate Footwear at School

We ask that families ensure their child(ren) have appropriate indoor footwear for learning, play, or unexpected outdoor situations while at school. Today’s temporary evacuation highlighted that flip-flops and Crocs are not suitable, as several students experienced extreme cold due to inadequate footwear. We appreciate your support in helping students come prepared. If you require any assistance, please contact the school.

Guess what’s coming up? Our next Fun Lunch is on December 18th, and this time we’re serving Taco Time!  Please be sure to get your orders in through Healthy Hunger so no one misses out on the delicious fun. Thanks for your support and your quick ordering!
