Dear Families,

As social media becomes a bigger part of our children’s lives, it’s important to understand both its benefits and challenges. While it can help kids stay connected, too much time online may impact their sleep, self-esteem, and face-to-face communication skills.

We encourage you to create regular opportunities for your child to play, explore, and connect with others offline—whether that’s through family game nights, outdoor activities, or spending time with friends. These moments help build strong relationships, resilience, and a healthy balance with technology.

PAT Practice Tests – April 25th and May 16th

On April 25th and May 16th, students in grade 6 will have the opportunity to write some practice PAT exams using the online platform Vretta. This will provide students with a little experience prior to the PAT exams in May and June. A lot of organization goes into having students write these provincial exams and we are supporting students with preparation time and practice.

Outdoor Learning Space – Update

The planning and organization phase of the outdoor learning space between Valley View School and Ian Bazalgette School is well underway. Both schools have been working collaboratively to work through the design thinking process in creating prototypes for this space. We have also been working closely with Elder John Snow from Stoney Nakoda and consulted with Elder Frank Turning Robe from Siksika Nation Blackfoot Tribe. Our next step will be to decide on a vendor and provide all student prototypes to them for inspiration on a final design. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming weeks!

National Young Author’s Fair

Some of our grades 3-6 classes are participating in the National Young Author’s Fair this year. This is the largest book writing competition in Canada and we’re excited to see what some of our students produce for this competition. We wish everyone participating a joyful writing experience!
